What Are Design Appointments?

Along with the new look and new website, you may have noticed something else that's changed around here.

Trials are out, and Design Appointments are in.

But why the new name? And what does it actually mean?

Well...

For a long time, I called them bridal trials because that's what everyone called them. When I first started in the industry, I didn't think much of it. It was simply the term we all used.

But the longer I've worked with brides, the more I've realised that the word trial never quite sat right with me.

The wedding industry has changed. Brides are often booking their suppliers years in advance, investing time, trust, and excitement long before their wedding day arrives.

When you book me, you're not booking someone to "try out."

You're choosing an artist whose work, style, and approach already resonate with you.

When I first began my career, I knew the style of makeup I loved creating, but my work naturally varied more from bride to bride. Over time, I've refined not only my artistry but also the experience I offer.

Today, I tend to attract brides who want to feel enhanced rather than transformed. Brides who want to feel like themselves just elevated. While every bridal look, I create is completely personal and unique, there is a thread that runs through them all: radiant, lit-from-within skin, soft refinement, and an effortless sense of beauty that still feels recognisably you.

I've also become known for more than the makeup itself.

My brides often tell me they value the calmness I bring, the guidance, the advice, and the fact that I’ve always got you on your wedding day. Need help getting in your dress .. I’ll do it, Need flowers drying off… I’ll do it, Need help putting shoes on… I’ll do it.

And that's exactly why the word trial no longer felt like the right fit.

Because by the time we meet for this appointment, you've already chosen me.

You've trusted me with one of the most important mornings of your life. I've committed to your date, and you've committed to me.

The appointment isn't about me proving myself.

It's about us creating something together.

A Design Appointment is exactly that! A collaboration. A creative process where we design your bridal look.

It's not a pressurised environment where you have to make all the decisions immediately. It's a space for exploration, conversation, and discovery. It's where you tell me how you envision yourself on your wedding day. How you want to feel. What you love about your everyday makeup. What feels authentically you.

And together, we build from there.

What Can You Expect From Your Design Appointment?

Before we meet, I'll ask you to gather a few things.

Inspiration images for your hair and makeup. Photos of yourself on days when you feel your most confident. Images showing how you normally wear your hair and makeup.

Then, when you arrive, we'll talk.

Not just about makeup, but about the overall feeling you want to create.

We'll look at your dress, your styling, your inspiration images, and break down exactly what it is you love about them. We'll explore the energy you want to embody and how you want to feel.

And while we're talking, I'll be listening.

I'll be getting a feel for your personality, your style, the features you love, and perhaps the areas you're less confident about.

We'll discuss coverage, colour, shape, texture, and finish.

Then we'll begin.

As I apply your makeup, I'll check in with you at every stage. We'll make adjustments together, talk through different options, and discuss how each choice will wear throughout the day, photograph on camera, and appear in different lighting.

My job isn't simply to apply makeup.

It's to educate and guide you so you feel confident in every decision we make.

Finding your bridal look is surprisingly similar to finding your wedding dress.

You might walk into a bridal boutique convinced you're looking for an A-line gown, only to discover that a fitted silhouette feels incredible. You might think you've settled on one neckline, only to find yourself falling in love with something you never expected.

The journey is what helps you discover what feels most like you.

And that's the journey we'll go on together.

Perhaps you've always worn the same lipstick shade and assumed it would be your wedding-day choice. But once we've created glowing skin, soft blush tones, and balanced the overall look, you discover another shade that brings everything together beautifully.

Those moments happen because we're designing, not simply recreating.

I'm there to offer professional expertise and guidance, but you bring the personality, the character, and the individuality.

That's why it truly is a collaboration.

A design process.

A bespoke experience created entirely around you.

So yes, the name has changed.

But the way I've approached these appointments hasn't.

The new name simply reflects the experience more honestly.

Because you don't deserve the same look as another bride.

You deserve a personalised experience where every detail is considered.

A space where you feel safe to speak up.

A space where you feel heard.

A space where you feel seen.

And together, we'll create a bridal look that feels authentically yours.

Not a trend.

Not a Pinterest board.

Not somebody else's version of a bride.

Love, Olivia x
